News from Bolivia

Our time here is going by very quickly. We have learned to love the Bolivian people. Village Health Training continues at Instituto Quebradra Leon with hydrotherapy, CPR, First Aid and numerous other subjects including nutrition, other infections, and prevention health related diseases.

This Vision Team has been in different locations everyday. Yesterday they visited a Senior Center built by some churches in Oregon. It is a beautiful place where elderly get meals and medical care. We examined and gave glasses to 170 people.

Today we at the Hospital in El Torno. The lines have been long all day. We may reach 200 people. Pretty much everyone will get a pair of glasses. What a thrill to see the expressions as many see for the first time. Some have shared how they want to be able to read the Bible to others. Our team prays with each person and they many times in turn pray for us. Many times there doesn´t seem to be the correct pair of glasses for someone but after prayer the perfect pair appears.

We plan to drive into Santa Cruz on Sunday and hopefully see a few sites and markets before flying home on Monday morning. We should arrive about midnight in Seattle on Monday. Those going on to Walla Walla will drive from there.

What a blessing this trip has been to each of us.

We will look forward to sharing our pictures and stories with each of you in the future.

Greetings from Bolivia

We arrived safely in Santa Cruz after 24 hours of travel from Seattle--on March 16 and headed out in three vehicles with all our luggage. We drove through several villages and crossed the Quebrada Leon River in at least 6 different places before arriving safely at the Instituto Quebrada Leon under the direction of Dr. and Mrs. Dosung Kim.
We are all camping in tents on the beautiful campus. The food is delicious and the Kims'hospitalitiy is great. We've been enjoying the tropical fruit--avodados falling off the trees and the colorful parrots and lush greenery. The Bolivian people are gracious and friendly.
We had a restful Sabbath--visiting a little church in a nearby village.
Sunday our Vision Team drove 2 hours to a Pathfinder Camporee on the other side of Santa Cruz. They tested over 170 children and adults--giving out over 55 pairs of glasses. It was priceless to see the expressions as many could see clearly for the first time in their lives. The team drove in a covered pickup truck with all their equipment loaded on top. They returned tired but excited well after dark.
Today, Monday the 19th our Village Health Team is starting the training at Dr. & Mr. Kim's Instituto. It will run through Friday.
The Vision team headed out to the nearby village of Calera to a school where they will screen about 70 people.
This morning we contacted a hospital in El Torino where they want us to come and hold a vision clinic later this week as well as do some training on Friday. They also want us to hold avision clinic in another village.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. God is blessing us with miracles and contacts. We will add more later. Continue to check in.

March 4, 2012 was a gorgeous sunny day. Six-five ladies and several gentlemen gathered at SonBridge Community Center for an afternoon of creative presentations and delicious recipes as some of the Second Hope Ministries ladies shared their favorite recipes. These included vegan and some gluten-free ones.
Everyone had a great time and look forward to another one this Spring
